LITTLE MERMAID JR. CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS FOR AUDITIONS (From MTI)

PRINCIPAL ROLES:

Ariel – The heroine of our story, is a little mermaid who longs to be human. A strong singer and dynamic performer – must be able to convey meaning through gesture once she loses her voice.

Sebastian – the meticulous and anxious crab who tries to keep Ariel safe – A strong singer who can also handle Sebastian’s emotional range. Sebastian can be played by a boy or girl.

Scuttle – The know-it-all seagull who serves as Ariel’s expert on humans. He is funny and off-beat. Singer/Actor -good comedic timing and able to be silly.

Flounder – Ariel’s sincere and sensitive best friend who is loyal to the end. A spunky and youthful fish who sings and acts throughout- Flounder can be cast with a girl or a boy. 

King Triton – Rules the sea and is a force to be reckoned with. Command the stage as a strong leader but also show the tenderness of a parent – Acting with minimal singing.

Ursula – The manipulative sea witch who tries to overthrow King Triton. She is cunning and devious and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Singer/Actor – the villain.

Flotsam – Ursula’s slippery spies. These electric eels are sinister and sneaky, and need to be singers/ actors.

Jetsam – Ursula’s slippery spies. These electric eels are sinister and sneaky, and need to be singers/ actors.

Grimsby – Prince Eric’s prim and proper valet. He is rigid in personality and constantly trying to guide Prince Eric towards the throne. Some singing but larger acting.

Prince – An adventurous prince who captures Ariel’s heart. Charming performer with a sensitive nature. A few small solos, but it is more important to cast a strong actor.

Carlotta – Head Maid at Palace (Act 2 – lines and some solo singing – Chorus Ens Act 1 ) 

Chef Louie – Head Chef at Palace (Act 2 – larger singing and a few lines – Chorus Ens Act 1) 

6 Mersisters – Ariel’s Sister (2 songs with solos-a few lines and Scenes – ‘Dragonfly Singers’ – Kiss the Girl – Mersisters for rest of show) 

Seahorse – King Triton’s Court Assistant (a few lines – solo/small grp in “under the sea” – Plays Seahorse whole show)
