Confirmation was celebrated, by Bishop Fitzgerald, at Our Lady of Peace Parish on Tuesday. Congratulations to the Confirmation class, to their sponsors, and families. Thank you to our teachers, and catechists and for all who helped to prepare our students to receive this Sacrament of Christian Initiation.
Thank you to our Drama students, their parents, and to all who worked so faithfully and diligently behind the scenes for the fantastic production of Aladdin, Jr. which was performed at the Our Lady of Peace Gymnasium Thursday, 14 March through Sunday, 17 March. The shows were spectacular. The performances themselves are the result of months long efforts in auditions, rehearsals, set and prop construction, costuming, and decorating. Thank you, for your support of the Drama program. The proceeds from the Drama productions are used for physical improvements to the gym. This year’s improvement will see the addition of new doors for the gym’s side entrance. Thanks!
Speaking of productions – the crew has been hard at work staging the Our Lady of Peace cafeteria for their needs. The next filming date will be tomorrow, Monday, 25 March. Like the filming from earlier this month parking will be restricted around the Our Lady of Peace campus and the streets that surround the campus. For this reason, Mass will be celebrated at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church on Monday, 25 March at 8:30 a.m. instead of at Our Lady of Peace. School will not be in session. The traditional Monday Sodality prayers will follow immediately after Mass.
The Solemnity of the Annunciation of The Lord has been transferred from Monday, 25 March to Monday, 8 April. Solemnities that occur during the celebration of Holy Week, or the Octave Days of Easter are traditionally transferred to the next available date, this year that date would be Monday, 8 April. This also happens to be the date of the total solar eclipse. Reflect upon the words spoken to Mary by the Archangel Gabriel: “The power of the Most High will overshadow you.” (Luke 1:35) What a truly powerful image.
We welcome Bishop McIntyre who will visit Our Lady of Peace Church as the presider for our Good Friday liturgy. The Commemoration on Good Friday includes the proclamation of the Passion according to St. John, the Solemn Intercessions which invite us to first reflect upon the concern being expressed followed by the invocation to God, the Adoration of the Holy Cross, and Holy Communion. The Liturgy for Good Friday begins at 3:00 p.m. We thank Bishop McIntyre for his presence with us during the Sacred Triduum.
Weather permitting, we will have an outdoor commemoration of the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, 29 March at Noon. We will begin the Stations at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peace Church and then process around the parish grounds until we conclude back at the sanctuary. All are most welcome.
