This week our audio and video system at Our Lady of Peace will be extensively upgraded and updated. This upgrading will limit our access to Our Lady of Peace Church for a few days. Please note the following changes.
- The 8:30 morning mass, as well as any other Mass that may be necessary – such as funerals – from Monday 10 November through the morning Mass of Saturday 15 November will be celebrated at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church. The celebration of Mass will return to Our Lady of Peace for Confessions and the Saturday Evening Vigil Mass on 15 November.
- There will be no period of Exposition, Adoration, or Benediction on Tuesday 11 November at either Our Lady of Peace Church or at Notre Dame de Lourdes.
Thank you for your flexibility with the needs of our parish facilities. We look forward to the upgrade in quality of our audio and video equipment here at Our Lady of Peace, and we thank all who have made this upgrading possible. Also, we thank our parish school community for hosting us at ND for that week. Blessings to all!
The annual St. Charles Borromeo Seminary Appeal is underway. At St. Charles Borromeo Seminary our seminarians spend years in spiritual, academic, and pastoral formation. Our seminarians are formed into faithful shepherds who will serve, lead, and celebrate the Sacraments with God’s people. With your support, our seminarians receive the tools they need to proclaim the Gospel with courage and joy and to accompany those who are searching for a relationship with God and the Church. By prayerfully and financially supporting the seminary, you invest in the future leadership of our Church as well as helping to form priests who will offer the Sacraments and pass down the faith for generations to come.
Envelopes for the Seminary Appeal can be found at the entrances of our churches. The envelopes contain options for one-time or recurring gifts as well as a QR code. Please feel free to visit the Seminary website at www.scs.edu or for more information about the appeal visit: www.scs.edu/appeal. Thank you for your prayerful support and generosity.
Heavenly Father, you call and send leaders to guide your Church in every age. Bless those in formation – seminarians, deacon candidates, and lay leaders. Make them shepherds after your heart and bless all who support them. May our efforts this day strengthen the Church for tomorrow. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
Readings and reflection questions for the Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica – 9 November 2025
The Lateran Basilica in Rome is the official residency of the Pope as the Bishop of Rome. Recall that there were two official liturgical celebrations when Pope Leo was elected as our Holy Father in May. The first celebration at the Vatican is the Papal Inauguration which celebrates the beginning of his pontificate; the second celebration is at the Lateran Basilica where the Papal Installation occurs with the Holy Father taking possession of the traditional symbols of his office.
The Lateran Basilica has been the site of five Ecumenical Councils including the Fourth Lateran Council in April of 1215. It was at this Lateran Council that the number of sacraments were set at seven, clerical celibacy was mandated, the Easter duty of Penance and reception of Holy Eucharist was instituted, and the term Transubstantiation – the real Presence of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament was clearly defined. Keep these essential aspects of faith in mind as we celebrate this important feast of the Church.
Ezekiel 47: 1-2, 8-9, 12 – Is the river of the Temple flowing through your life? What does this flow require of you? How can we get the flow moving again for those whose spirituality has gone stagnant? / How frequently do you bear fresh fruit?
Responsorial Psalm 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9- The waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy dwelling of the Most High! – In what areas of your life is your earth shaken? What do you need from God to settle the earth? / What are the astounding things that the Lord has wrought for you?
1st Corinthians 3:9c-11, 16-17 – You are God’s building. What does your structure look like? How firm is your foundation? / Where is some remodeling necessary?
John 2:13-22 – What level of zeal do you have for your faith? / This feast day celebrates the Lateran Basilica which is the official Church of the Pope. What churches have you been associated with? What made those churches special?
